Art Residency

Denizen

A purpose-led line of signature ceramics and glassware, made in partnership with artists in residency.

‘Denizen’ is Ateliers Beldine’s signature line; an opportunity for us to break the mould of ceramics and glassware production. We invite artists to a residency at our Tameslouht workshop, where they work in collaboration with our team of artisans to craft innovative collections with a purpose. The name ‘Denizen’ refers to the exchange between visiting artists and local artisans. Both within and without, we like to think of these pieces as existing both inside tradition and pushing its limits.

Although we commit a portion of all profits across Ateliers Beldine’s workshop to the neighbouring orphanage, we ensure that 100% of the profits generated specifically by the Denizen line go to running arts-programs for the youth at Centre Fiers et Forts. In this way, young people dealing with trauma and other challenges may develop life skills and express themselves creatively.

Resident artists may also spend their time working directly with the children during these workshops, meaning the beneficiaries whom a collection supports may also inspire its creation.

The artists and designers in residence at Ateliers Beldine are carefully chosen based on their work and vision. During their stay, they are able to focus fully on their work and creative process, incorporating moments that stimulate creativity and exchange between the ateliers and the children from Centre Fiers et Forts.

Our goal is to create a positive and supportive working environment for everybody, be they a resident, artisan or beneficiary at Centre Fiers et Forts. We know from first-hand experience that it is only with the spirit of creativity and experimentation that truly innovative pieces can be created. That is the spirit of ‘Denizen’.

FOUR creates culinary installations and interactive experiences combining cooking and ceramics. Founded by Jeanne Viviès and Sonia Oet, FOUR works with the (two) elements of food and earth, and is interested in how to elevate them to the level of sculptures - in coherence with the place and the context in which they are placed.

In residence at Ateliers Beldine in January 2023, FOUR developed in collaboration with the local team of artisans a collection of plates, bowls, towers and serving dishes celebrating the shared table.

All profits from the sale of the FOUR × Beldine coins will be donated to the Centre Fiers et Forts to set up a new introductory ceramics programme.
